South
African National Defence Force, together with the South African Music
Education Trust (SAMET), have chosen the Field Band Foundation as the
first beneficiaries of the unused musical instruments stored in various
army bases.
EXAMS
Twelve pupils from our Learnership project in Mafikeng, Northwest
Province, participated in Trinity College Examinations for the May
session. Seven obtained Distinctions (!!!) and five Merits! Learnership
pupils are on a 4-year programme with SAMET and will be sent back to their
regions as Music teachers upon completion of this course. Tuition is
offered in Violin, Viola, Cello, Theory of Music, General Musicianship
(Aural Training) and Applied Music (Chamber Music, and Teaching experience
on Tuesdays!)
INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC
FESTIVAL
Shadrack Bokaba has been invited by the International Chamber Music
Festival to be a guest speaker. The festival is held annually @
Stellenbosch University. It opens on the 22nd July 2004. MTN project will
also perform during the lunch hour concert on the same day.
ORCHESTRA IMBIZO
A meeting of all major South African Professional Orchestras has been
confirmed for June 24, 2004 at the Convention Centre, Sandton. Shadrack
will chair this important historic gathering which will also include the
Department of Arts and Culture and the National Arts Council. Issues on
the agenda include transformation within Orchestras and funding. Agreed
guidelines and targets for transformation will be set @ this meeting.
