beneficiaries complete regular progress reports to ensure that funds are
optimally utilized. A SAMET project contract is signed with project
leaders and teacher so that fiduciary responsibility is maintained. The
SAMET Trustees meet quarterly. Two working committees, which convene
monthly, have been created to manage the operations of the Trust:
Education and
Development Committee:
This Committee is chaired by world-renowned soprano and teacher, Mimi
Coertse. It evaluates, selects and monitors progress on projects. The
members of the Education and Development Committee give their guidance and
skills to the projects selected.
Finance and
Sponsorship Committee:
This committee, chaired by Mr Dieter Bergs, ensures funds are allocated
according to the agreements undertaken with sponsors and Project leaders.
SAMET
Administration:
Shadrack Bokaba the Executive Director, heads SAMET’s administration. He
is responsible for local and international fund - raising, project
management, meetings, publicity, and marketing. Milena Toma, General
Manager assists Mr Bokaba. Erika Ansermino, the Financial Administrator
controls budgets, project salaries and other fiscal matters.
An endowment of 10

The South African Music
Education Trust ( SAMET ) was formed in 1994 by a group of Trustees
representing diverse sectors of the musical world, in conjunction with
commerce and education.
SAMET is a facilitating body, intent on bringing musical education and
opportunity to the broader community. In most instances these communities
have never been exposed to any form of musical education.
SAMET perceives the vital areas of arts and culture as bridge builders,
the elevator of human dignity, and a powerful means of economic
independence.
The Trust's main objective is the training and development of musicians
through music literacy programmes which leads to the performance of
indigenous jazz, classical and popular music on a variety of instruments.
This type of tuition is aimed at benefiting the whole child, developing
their co-ordination and communication skills and providing them with the
necessary foundation to succeed in anything they might wish to do.
SAMET relies mainly on private and corporate funding for the execution of
projects. It is through funding from institutions such as ' yours ' that
the SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC EDUCATION TRUST will be able to manifest its goals
and objectives set forth in the following pages on this site.
